The WI Wins program and Community Action for Healthy Living Inc. reports positive results from its recent summertime round of tobacco compliance checks in Oconto County.

“The results speak well for the great work retailers are doing in training their staff to check the ID of all people trying to purchase tobacco products,”, said Connie Olson, health educator for CAHL.

Out of 32 retailers checked, only three illegal sales were recorded in the county.

“By not selling tobacco products to underage youth, Oconto County wins and so does Wisconsin,” Olson said. Checks were done in Abrams, Gillett, Lena, Oconto, Oconto Falls and Suring.

The purpose of the WI Wins program is to reduce the number of illegal tobacco sales to Wisconsin minors.
