Senior has helped Panthers out to 3-1 start

Year: Senior

After finishing the 2017-18 season with just a 7-16 mark, the Oconto Falls girls basketball team seems to be playing with more confidence early in this winter season. Senior Sammy Shallow has helped the Panthers out to a 3-1 start.

Shallow serves as the team’s primary ball handler but can also score her share of points. Oconto Falls prides itself on defense and Shallow plays a big role in the pressure defense the team plays.

Q: When did your interest in basketball begin?

A: My interest in basketball began when I was 4 years old. My dad was a basketball coach for the Oconto Falls Hoops Club and I was the team mascot.

Q: What’s your favorite part about a basketball game or the basketball season?

A: My favorite part about a basketball game is the intensity and adrenaline rush I get when facing a skilled opponent.

Q: What are some of your individual goals this basketball season and how do you plan to achieve them?

A: One of my individual goals is to play hard and have fun.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Oconto Falls basketball team?

A: My favorite memory was my freshman year with coach (Mike) Marnocha, and it was the last game of the season. Even though we played with only six players, we beat Luxemburg-Casco.

Q: What are some of the team’s goals for this season?

A: Some of the team’s goals for this season are to play to our greatest potential and finish the season above .500.

Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

A: My pre-game ritual is to listen to music.

Q: What serves as your motivation on the basketball court?

A: I’m self-motivated on the court because I want to be the best that I can be and my dad is always there to inspire me.

Q: Do you look up to any particular athletes? If so, why them?

A: I look up to my uncle Ryan because I grew up cheering him on at all of his sporting events.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school or competing in a high school sport?

A: My favorite thing to do when I am not participating in a sport is to cook and help on the family farm.

Q: Favorite TV show?

A: My favorite TV show is “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: One thing that most people don’t know about me is that I was born on Friday the 13th and that’s why I feel that 13 is my lucky number.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

A: The best advice that I’ve ever received is to leave it all on the court and have no regrets.
