WRESTLING

Lemens wins invite in Peshtigo

Gillett/Suring’s Sam Lemens claimed first place in the 145-pound weight class to help the co-op to a sixth place finish at the 50th Peshtigo Wrestling Invitational on Saturday.

Lemens went 5-0 on the day, winning his first four matches by pins — with three coming in under 1 minute, 15 seconds. He finished the day with a 6-4 decision win in the first place match.

Brody Zahn (220) finished second for the co-op with a 4-1 record. The co-op’s other two wrestlers, Jake Burt (285) and Mike VanDenElzen (170), each took fourth.

Falls post 3-2 mark in Stevens Point

Oconto Falls posted a 3-2 mark while competing in the Stevens Point duals on Saturday.

Jager Eisch and Clayton Whiting each went 5-0 on the day for Oconto Falls.

Jaden Ganter, Collin Schindel, Trevor Pankratz, Tyler Budz and Jacob Kaminski all finished 4-1 for the Panthers.

Lena/STAA trio takes second at invite

Kevin Chang (120), Alex Decoursin (132) and Kiko Cajigas (160) all placed second in their respective weight classes to lead the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy co-op at the FVL Invite at Fox Valley Lutheran High School on Saturday.

Lena/STAA finished 10th at the 10-team invite with 63 points.

Richard Fieck (285) placed fifth for the co-op.

Oconto Falls 57, Waupaca 18

The Panthers eased past the Comets in a dual on Thursday. Oconto Falls won all but three weight classes on the night.

Jager Eisch (113), Bodee Woods (138), Clayton Whiting (152), Aidan Stary (170) and Elijah Zielinski (220) all picked up wins by pin for Oconto Falls.

Trevor Pankratz (160) won by technical fall for the Panthers while Collin Schindel (120) won by major decision. Jaden Ganter (106), Tyler Budz (126) and Jacob Kaminski (182) all won by forfeit.

Coleman 45, Oconto Falls 15

The Panthers had three wrestlers win decisions while claiming four weight classes in a dual against the Cougars on Dec. 8.

Clayton Whiting (152), Aidan Stary (170) and Bodee Woods (138) all earned decision wins for Oconto Falls.

Collin Schindel (120) won by forfeit.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Gillett 55, Lena 22

The Tigers snapped a three-game winning streak by toppling the Wildcats in a Marinette & Oconto Conference clash on Friday.

Aubrey DeBauch and Karissa Schaal led the way for Gillett, scoring 22 and 20 points, respectively. DeBauch also with 12 rebounds and 10 steals to record a triple-double. Schaal tallied six steals.

Camryn Long grabbed 10 rebounds while Grace Wickman had seven for Gillett.

Madysen Herald scored 11 points to lead Lena on the night. Meckenna Portier had seven points and 12 rebounds. Lillian Sellen recorded six boards and five steals.

Crivitz 71, Suring 50

The Eagles were outscored by 14 points in the second half of a M&O loss to the Wolverines on Friday.

Kylee Stelzer tallied 16 points for Suring in the setback. Paige Krueger added 13 points while Wylee Van Bellinger had 10.

Stelzer hit a trio of 3-pointers while Van Bellinger connected on two 3s.

Lena 44, STAA 40

The Wildcats held off Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy in a tight M&O battle on Thursday to claim their first victory of the season.

Madysen Herald led the way for Lena, posting 17 points, six rebounds and six steals in the win. Meckenna Portier finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with six steals.

Alayna Peterson contributed six assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Wildcats.

Suring 67, Goodman-Pembine 48

All seven of the Eagles’ scorers tallied more than five points in a nonconference win over the Goodman-Pembine co-op on Jan. 8. Suring led by just five at halftime before outscoring the co-op 32-18 in the second half.

Kylee Stelzer led the charge for Suring, hitting three 3-pointers while compiling 16 points. Wylee Van Bellinger added 10 points while Paige Krueger had nine.

Linzy Runge chipped in eight points while Stephanie Huth had seven for the Eagles.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fox Valley Lutheran 61, Oconto Falls 55

The Panthers came up just short of taking down the Foxes in a North Eastern Conference battle on Friday.

Mitchell Manns scored 15 points to lead Oconto Falls on the night. Dakota Carriveau added 14 points while Jarod Parsons and Jo Schoen added eight and seven points, respectively.

Manns also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while Carriveau had seven boards and five steals. Parsons had six rebounds.

Gillett 74, Niagara 39

The Tigers cruised past the Badgers in M&O action on Thursday behind a monster game from Cole Long.

Long compiled 27 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in the lopsided win.

Elijah Framnes tallied 16 points while Logan Krause added 11. Krause also dished out a team-leading eight assists.

Suring 70, Lena 36

The Eagles stifled the Wildcats in a M&O contest on Thursday.

Caleb Lally scored 19 points to lead Suring to the win. Mitchell Stegeman added 18 points while Dequez Sepulveda had 11.

Max Beyer tallied 14 points for Lena. Colby Borchert chipped in seven points.

Wrightstown 65, Oconto Falls 51

The Tigers pulled away late for a double-digit win over the Panthers on Jan. 8.

Mitchell Manns scored 11 points to lead Oconto Falls while Jo Schoen and Jarod Parsons each tallied 10 points.Dakota Carriveau contributed eight points.

Connor Peetz had seven rebounds to lead the team while Manns and Carriveau each grabbed six. Manns also had three steals.

Crivitz 84, Gillett 55

The Tigers fell to the M&O-leading Wolverines on Jan. 8.

Cole Long and Logan Krause each scored 12 points for Gillett. Logan Block tallied 11 points while Anthony Carroll and Elijah Framnes contributed nine and eight, respectively.

Framnes pulled down 11 rebounds while Block had nine and Long seven. Krause assisted on four field goals while Long blocked a pair of shots.

Lena 55, Wausaukee 51

The Wildcats held off the Rangers in a tight M&O contest on Jan. 8.

Colby Borchert had a monster game to lead Lena, scoring 32 points while also tallying nine rebounds. He made 16 free throws on the night and a pair of 3-pointers.

Max Beyer added seven points for the Wildcats while Trenton Telford had four steals.
