Dennis was born in Underhill on July 22, 1934, a son of the late Glynn W. and Ruth (Vorpahl) Schroeder. He attended area schools and moved to Rockford as a young man before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Dennis proudly served for two years before receiving an honorable discharge.

After his military service, Dennis returned to Rockford where he enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an operating engineer for Sjostrom and Sons Construction. Dennis was very gifted when it came to fixing things and understanding how they worked. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 union for over 50 years.

Following his father’s passing, Dennis took over his family’s homestead in Underhill. He was an avid collector of cars, tractors and other farm equipment and made regular trips and visits back home throughout his lifetime.

Dennis was a lifelong Lutheran attending church at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rockford and Christ Lutheran Church when he came back home. He was extremely social and was happy to visit those he knew in nursing homes. Dennis was active in German Club and Lombardi Club. He attended Polish Fest, Beckman Sawmill Days and was involved with the Midway Village Civil War Reenactment. Dennis attended the Iola Car Show each year and enjoyed going to flea markets. He loved polka music and was an excellent polka dancer and was also a great cook. He was always happy to share his talents with friends and family. He will be sadly missed.

Dennis is survived by his siblings Lenore M. Robertson, of Costa Mesa, California, Iris D. Schroeder, of Rockford, Illinois, Judith M. Pecore, of Oshkosh, and Stephen R. (Debbie) Schroeder.
